Nuggets Night is a tribute to lost gems of ’60s, pop, garage, psychedelic rock that benefits music related nonprofits of Portland, Oregon. It features bands performing covers of their favorite garage rock songs from the ‘60s with special headlining performances by legendary acts of the era. Started in 2007 as a benefit show for Question Mark of ? and The Mysterians to help him recover from devastating house fire, the event has grown to a multi-day festival benefiting a wide array of music-related non profits. It has featured national acts such as The Kingsmen, The Flamin’ Groovies, The Shadows of Knight and The Pandoras, all the while contributing proceeds to a good cause. www.nuggetsnight.com
What’s a Nugget? “It’s a Nugget if you dug it,” says Lenny Kaye, lead guitarist for the Patti Smith Group and creator of the influential Nuggets compilation album. Nuggets: Original Artyfacts from the First Psychedelic Era is a groundbreaking compilation of American psychedelic and garage rock released in the mid-to-late 1960s. It was assembled by Kaye under the supervision of Jac Holzman, founder of Elektra Records. The resulting double album was released on vinyl LP by Elektra in 1972 with liner notes by Kaye that contained one of the first uses of the term “punk rock”. It was reissued with a new cover design by Sire Records in 1976. In the 1980s, Rhino Records issued Nuggets in a series of fifteen installments, and in 1998 as a 4-cd box set.
In an effort to raise awareness for this year’s event, June 1 & 2 featuring Love Revisited, Nuggets Night is bringing a small version of the show directly to Seattle. The Seattle Nuggets Night Traveling Road Show will feature bands made up of the Nuggets Night founders and volunteers, plus Seattle’s Knights of Trash and Dr Quin and the Medicine Woman.
The Pynnacles – From the music hot bed that is Portland comes a band of veterans reinventing themselves and the music that inspired them from that short time period between 1965 and 1968. The Pynnacles bring back the vitality of raw classic Psyche/Garage with some dance floor filling songs. Featuring members of Satan’s Pilgrims, Big Elf, Paradise and Crackerbash. https://thepynnacles.bandcamp.com/
The Reverberations – Psychedelicize your soul as The Reverberations weave their original 60s-spun music through your mind. https://thereverberations.bandcamp.com/
Knights of Trash – Medway sound from the PNW. Started as a Milkshakes cover band and quickly grew into a force to be reckoned with due to an energetic live show and instant-classic-originals getting mixed into the set. To continue to call the band a “cover band” would be the same as calling the Rolling Stones circa 1966 a Muddy Waters cover band. https://theknightsoftrash.bandcamp.com/
The Shriekers – With their potent mix of 60s covers and inspired garage rock originals, The Shriekers are a band to be reckoned with. https://theshriekers.bandcamp.com/
The Mean Reds – Influenced by mods, rods, and slobs, The Mean Reds’ primitive retro-punk sound rips the seeds out of garage rock’s 60s core. Girls in the Garage is Back from the Grave. http://www.themeanredspdx.com/
The Hauer Things – Covering all your favorite garage and psych tunes, these Nugget-heads will blow your mind with their throwback howling. https://www.facebook.com/HauerThings/
Dr Quin and the Medicine Woman – Dr. Quinn prescribes it but The Medicine Woman supplies it. We are a Seattle rock duo, certified fuzz distributors and uncertified medical professionals. https://soundcloud.com/dqmw
