NUGGETS NIGHT PRE-EVENT SERIES CONTINUES WITH MARCH 10 PERFORMANCE BY THE STRANGE EFFECTS, THE BRAXELING FAMILY PLAYERS AND CIGARETTE MCQUEEN
Garage-pop aces the Strange Effects will headline a March 10 performance at Turn! Turn! Turn! in Northeast Portland. Backing the Effects are the Braxeling Family Players and Cigarette McQueen.
Proceeds from the event will go toward backing Nuggets Night 2017, which takes place at Star Theater Portland June 23 and June 24. Nuggets Night 2017 will support The Jeremy Wilson Foundation.
The Strange Effects feature a rangy selection of phase- and tremolo-friendly ear-grabbers played by the likes of such respected Portland musicians as guitarist Kirk Larsen (Beyond Veronica) and drummer Thom Sullivan (the Pynnacles, Paradise).
The Braxeling Family Players feature members of Metropolitan Farms, the Honus Huffhines and Magnetic Health Factory, three bands three bands that issue releases via Portland’s Braxeling Records.
Portland-based Cigarette McQueen offers an array of dirty garage rock and R&B covers.
Other shows in the Nuggets pre-event series have featured such acts as the Pynnacles, the Mean Reds and the Hauer Things.

Organizers of Portland’s popular Nuggets Night have planned the third in a series of shows designed to recognize the event’s 10th anniversary.
Headliners for Nuggets Night 2017 will be announced March 1. Last year’s headliners were the influential psych artists the Flaming Groovies and the legendary Kingsmen.
Luke Strahota (the Satin Chaps, the Hauer Things) launched Nuggets Night in 2007 as a way to raise funds for Question Mark, the leader of the beloved ? and the Mysterians who’d lost his home and belongings to a fire. In subsequent years, the event has benefitted Portland based, music-rerated nonprofits such as The Oregon Music Hall of Fame Scholarship Fund, Rock and Roll Camp for Girls, Ethos Music School, A.M.P. (Artists Mentorship Program), among others such as WFMU and Norton Records.
